Why buy game consoles when you already own a PC? Am I missing something?

Edit: Thanks for all the comments I've received on YouTube. There have been a lot of people who agree with me, and just as many people who think I'm a total idiot.

I guess it's not that simple to convince the console defenders :)

why do i prefer console games over pc games? here are some of my reasons.

1. pc's require constant upgrades to remain relevant in the world of gaming. take a look at some of the required system specs whenever a new console game is ported to the pc... generally speaking, consoles are a far cheaper way to achieve similar graphics.

2. let's face it. you may not think console controllers are stylish, but aside from counterstrike and the occasional RTS, they're a far better gaming interface than a mouse and keyboard.

3. you might be able to get some of the same games on a pc, but it's tough to best companies that focus large sums of money on game development specific to their consoles. sony has quite a few indie games on their consoles' online store...

in the end, you could ask yourself such questions as "why oh why do people prefer coke over pepsi or vice versa?" it's all personal preference.

Anonymous, your arguments are the same as those from most other people,
however, the truth is that PC's don't require constant upgrades. I've upgraded my PC about once every 5-7 years (about the same amount of time as it takes for consoles to upgrade) and I've yet to ever run into a game that couldn't be run. Are consoles generally cheaper - yes, but my argument is that most people need a PC anyway and already have one for other uses - Internet, work, school, etc..., so you're most likely already setup for games.

It's a question of personal taste in games I guess. But let's take it in order.

The frequency of the upgrades depends on two major factors: 1. What kind of hardware you buy. 2. What kind of games you play.

Basically, the way I see it, the possibility of making an upgrade every 5-7 years is to either buy the most high-end hardware on the market. Or you're playing games that are not that hardware intensive.

It's also the question of what kind of games you play. If you're into FPS, RTS and similar - probably the PC is your best bet. Playing that kind of games is much better with keyboard+mouse rather than a gamepad. Also the multiplayer.
But I happen to love the games by KOEI like Dynasty Warriors. Best way to play them is with a friend and for that you need gamepads and a bigass screen. Hence a console has the advantage here.

Besides, not everyone has a PC. A lot of people prefer having a laptop, generally with a good CPU, a large amount of RAM and completely POS GFX-chip. Something along the lines of Intel's GMA.
Laptop - work and study. Console - gaming.

Though personally I agree - PC gaming is generally more preferable for me. Along with the fact that both PS3 and XBOX 360 suck quite intensively.
Get yourself a PS2 and Dynasty Warriors 5. Try it out.
